Tinted Lenses Tinted lenses turn your glasses into prescription sunglasses and are a great buy for summer, avoiding the heavy weight of clip-ons. A variety of colours can be added to your lenses to produce sunglasses. Please additionally select a Shade strength. Polarised Lenses Polarised lenses are already tinted, have UV protection and cut out glare (reflected light). They are particularly useful for drivers to cut out glare from a wet road; and for fishing. The only other option you might want is Scratch Resistant. Photochromatic Lenses Photochromatic lenses (of which Transitions is one brand) react to light by getting darker. They are ideal if you want combined sunglasses and ordinary glasses. They have built in UV protection. Lens Thickness The lenses we use are made from lightweight polycarbonate plastic with a high refractive index, which helps reduce the thickness of the lens. Our standard thin lens index is 1.59, however you may select increasingly thinner variants of this; 1.6, 1.67 or 1.74 index. Each of these have an additional cost. You are recommended to select a higher index lens if your prescription is particularly high, else you may end up with un-attractive lens appearance on your glasses. Our dispensing optician may advise you to do so in specific cases. In some instances where the prescription is very high, we cannot effectively glaze certain frames in a low index and therefore we only offer the high index lenses. Coatings Multi-Anti-Reflective coating - reduces distracting reflections of the glasses themselves, particularly important while driving and computer use. It includes scratch resistant and UV400 coatings and additionally a hydrophobic coat. UV400 coating - you cannot see ultra-violet light, but it causes eye-strain nonetheless. Specs Store offers UV400 coating on all frames FREE of charge. Scratch resistant coating - glasses can have a hard time of it, shoved into pockets with keys for instance.
